One thing about the Solar Eclipse that puzzles most of us is the fact that when the Moon is closer to the Earth and eclipses the Sun, it is seen to fit the Sun exactly.

As Richard Cassaro informs us: “The sun’s diameter is 400 times that of the moon, but, due to the moon’s close proximity, both orbs appear the same size in the sky. This is exceedingly unlikely, and astronomers of all ages have marvelled at this strikingly odd coincidence”.

• Diameter, distance of Sun: 1400130 km, 149597870 km.

• Diameter, distance of Moon: 3474.8 km, 384401 km.

• Sun diameter/distance: 0.00936 = 0.53623 degrees as seen from Earth.

• Moon diameter/distance: 0.00904 = 0.51791 degrees as seen from Earth.

If the Moon were a few hundred miles distant either way it would make a huge difference to our perception. But again, in ocular terms, the Moon is at the correct distance between us and the Sun so that its diameter is seen to match that of the Sun . . . How? . . Why?

Well again, the odds against the Moon being at this exact distance is off the scale and reveals that none of this is really due to chance or just mere coincidence, but that the deeper meaning behind these celestial spheres, regarding their presence, their positions and activities in our reality are that they also function as metaphorical constructs; reflecting back at us the very processes – cyclical – that are being used every moment as regards the creative power of our own consciousness.

I shall expand on this later. For now we will look a little deeper into this phenomenon of the Sun and Moon being the same size as observed during the Solar Eclipse and what it means symbolically as regards the 'third force' (fusion of opposites), which has also been encoded within the Masonic Apron.

Richard Cassaro is also aware of this “third Force” and much of what he reveals in his presentations about the dual opposites and the balancing “third force” has already been covered in my book The Shining Ones (2006), but it appears Richard has come to these insights himself and has his own way of presenting these esoteric concepts and delivers them in a simplified way that makes it easy for the reader to grasp.

Richard Cassaro is also correct to say that the Solar Eclipse resembles a giant pupil of an Eye in the sky (All-Seeing Eye of God); that the enigmatic image of the Eclipse is symbolised in the 'All-Seeing Eye' of Freemasonry, and that like the occult “Third Eye” it symbolises the harmonising balance of opposites (as in the male and female sides of an individual expressed in the two sides of the brain), in the synchronised union and fusion of both.

We have already seen that the degree angle value of 51.84° for the sides of the Great Pyramid was derived from the combined proportions of the Earth and Moon.

We can only rest on Higgins statements that the structural proportions of the universe can be derived from this ancient ‘geometric formula’ which was devised long ago by an advanced, 'lost civilisation' that appears to have possessed profound scientific knowledge.

And if what we are seeing here really is a glimpse into the ‘structural proportions of the universe’ as said to be contained within this geometric formula, then the angle of 51.84° or 51.5° is not so surprising, especially when we note that the sloping side angles of the Great Pyramid also reflect the natural side angles of a quartz crystal – 51.43°.

Earth Moon 23.5 2 Sat 34

Instead of the angle of 51.5 degrees, it is with the addition of the larger square – which completes Da Vinci’s version of the geometric formula.

Beginning from the base-corners of the large square we find that angles with the rounded off figure of 52 degrees intersect the 23.5° angles at the heart.

The 52° angle is the one we are most familiar with today in that it is an angle often used in reference to the Great Pyramid of Giza and one we would identify it by.

These two angles reveal that Vitruvian Man is based on the same proportions as the ancient geometric formula which the architects of the Great Pyramid had also used – including the Masonic “Cosmic Angles” associated with the Earth's geophysics revealing that the ancients, and possibly a ‘source civilisation’, understood the proportions of the universe, knew all about the Earth; the obliquity of its axis and also the precession of the equinoxes and encoded the angles associated with this knowledge along with the numbers of precession – all of which turn up in the mythical sources of many cultures around the world.

As per the Ancient Geometric Formula, the circle in Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man represents the circumference of the Earth, which presents us with the following result:

And, there is something else . . . the arms are not angled at 36 degrees, and the legs are not open at 51.5 degrees as we find with the Masonic Apron . . .

In fact in one of these two superimposed images of Vitruvian Man his arms are outstretched straight and his legs are standing straight as if signifying ‘zero obliquity’, while the other’s arms and legs are splayed open at the angle of 23.5 degrees – the present obliquity angle of the Earth’s Axis.

Primarily, the Sun and Moon symbolise the Yang-Yin, dual opposites in nature and in man.

The Sun symbolises the male Solar energy and the Moon the female Lunar energy.

Sun = Day = Light = Heat = Dry = Fire = Positive = Awake = Conscious  = Left Brain = Objectivity = Life = Good.

Moon = Night = Darkness = Cold = Moist = Water = Negative = Asleep = Subconscious = Right Brain = Subjectivity = Death = Evil.

I would like to bring attention to the work of a reseacher and author named Ricard Cassaro.

In his article, Hidden in the Sun & Moon, Richard does a fine job in listing these positive and negative correspondences with the Sun and Moon.

He writes:

. . . as if these macrocosmic, cyclic processes are a reflection of the same cyclic processes going on at the microcosmic level and within human consciousness.

The Sun also represents the solar-male-related left-brain hemisphere, and the Moon represents the lunar-female-related right-brain hemisphere – each of which will take its turn in being predominant in the cyclic activity of day and night: the left side of the brain being predominant during the day, and the right side of the brain being predominant during the night – although it has been noted that there are also shorter-duration alternations going on between the two sides of the brain every 90 to 100 minutes. (See here).

The myriad interactions of these positive and negative forces is what also creates form.

However, in esoteric symbolism and literature, and by way of the two opposites and all their correspondences, emphasis is really being placed on the generative, neutral “Third Force” in nature that unites these two forces, and which through their fusion, everything is being created and recreated.

This is the meaning of the sacred, universal Triad.

This emphasis given to the “third force” is evident in the Masonic Tracing Board above.

Between the pillars and in the higher central position is the “All-Seeing Eye” signifying the 'Creator', 'Supreme Being' or 'Grand Architect'.

The triad is replicated below in the centralised star and heart and also the three candlesticks which are also placed between the twin pillars  – the higher-placed, central candlestick again representing the Neutral “Third Force” in the Triad.

As regards the Sun and Moon opposites, the neutral “Third Force” – the union and fusion of both, would be represented in the ECLIPSE, as in the Solar Eclipse, where and when from our perspective on Earth, the Moon passes exactly in front of the Sun and “occults” the Sun  . . . and here we are confronted with one of the greatest mysteries of nature.

The Eye of Providence, or the All-Seeing Eye, is a symbol found in both Christian and Masonic traditions, which carries a meaning similar to that of the ancient Egyptian Sun/solar or circumpunct symbol - a simple circle with a dot at the centre.

It is considered to be both the 'Eye of Ra' and the 'Eye of Horus'.

Generally depicted as a single eye centrally placed inside an upright triangle, the image reveals the Divine Creator as the Centre of all Being, whose omniscience reaches through all realms of existence, and it also represents the Eternal NOW or Present Moment, as symbolised by the relatively rare and short duration of a Solar Eclipse.

The deeper reasons as to why the Solar Eclipse represents the Creator or Source of Creation is revealed on this website in a series of presentations titled The Internal Eclipse.

Great Seal All seeing eye eclipse Masonic Tracing Board

“By this chain of associations, the Sun & Moon engender and denote all the “pairs of opposites” in the universe!

Both heavenly bodies show their faces for average 12 out of 24 hours daily. That’s exactly half each! This fits in perfectly with the “opposites” being “equal” and “opposing” yet complementary and balancing!

The idea that both the Sun & Moon show their faces on average 12 hours each out of a 24 hour day (half each) is more than “just a bit odd.” This is an impossible coincidence!”

Hidden In The Sun & Moon (Pt. 2 of 2) by Richard Cassaro.

“Think about this extraordinary circumstance for a moment. Not only do the Sun & Moon engender and denote all the “pairs of opposites” in the physical universe, but they appear to us to be exactly the same size in our sky!”

Angular Diameter of Moon: 33' 30" (0.5583°). Angular Diameter of Sun: 32' 42" (0.5450°).

Figure 4: The Eclipse of the Sun and Moon opposites - the fusion of both - symbolised in the All-Seeing Eye of the Creator.

“Interestingly, the rare coincidence of the Sun & Moon being equal size in our heavens (discussed earlier) allows us to enjoy solar eclipses, an event where the sun’s disk becomes covered or “occulted” by the moon’s disk.

The two briefly appear united; a “union of opposites,” you might say, which circumstance seems to form a single, giant radiant Eye”.

“Doesn’t the solar eclipse look exactly like an eye? If you agree it does, then you’re not alone. Astronomers of all ages have cited the illustrious “Eye” effect of eclipses, and many say it looks like some mysterious kind of All-Seeing Eye staring down at us”.

Hidden In The Sun & Moon (Pt. 2 of 2) by Richard Cassaro.

Cassaro also makes the same connections between the Masonic Sun-Moon symbolism and the physio-kundalini-chakra system in the body, which depicts what I call the Internal Eclipse, my own term for this union of opposites which can lead to the source-centre of consciousness that resides within us all, and this is ultimately what all this symbolism associated with the opposites is leading to.

Figure 6: The Hindu, Physio-Kundalini-Chakra System.

Cassaro writes: "In the ancient system of Yoga, the awakening of the Mind’s Eye is depicted in Kundalini Yoga, with its famous “chakra” system. The Third Eye or “ajna” chakra is the sixth of seven chakras and is awakened when we balance our solar “pingala” channel on our body’s right side with our lunar “ida” channel on our body’s left side".

The diagram below is a stylised version of my previous Triad diagram which can be seen on page 36 of The Shining Ones.

In terms of opposites, the two base points of the triad or triangle are positive (masculine) and negative (feminine).

The central line is the neutral “middle path” which leads upward and inward to the apex, which is the Neutral Point.

Again, the Sufi mystic Gurdjieff called this the 'Third Force' – being the point of fusion where both the positive and negative opposites are cancelled out – neutralised – to become pure energy again.

Figure 5: The Triad.

Keeping all the above in mind, we can see how these esoteric principles of the Triad of three forces, have also been encoded within the Masonic Apron, and why the trangular flap of 36-degrees - the “angle of the Sun” – is really an allusion to the Sun . . . and this means the occulted Sun behind the Moon – signifying the symbolic fusion of opposites that takes place during a Solar Eclipse.

As noted, from our perspective on Earth, the Sun is the same size as the Moon, so the encoded proportions of the Moon in the Masonic Apron could just as well apply to the Sun.

And seeing as both these celestial spheres are being referenced, then one could say that both are united (fused together) as ONE, as in the Solar Eclipse, and it would appear that this is the revelation that has been encoded and preserved in the Masonic Apron.

As we know, the Great Pyramid of Giza is also referenced by the 51.84-degree angle of its four sides; an angle that was no doubt originally derived from the combined radius proportions of the Earth and Moon, and we can see why the 'All-Seeing Eye' ('Eye of Providence') is also placed at the neutral point apex of the pyramid and also within the capstone, which is sometimes depicted as detached, floating and radiating rays of Light. This would mean that the 'All-Seeing Eye' further symbolises the Solar Eclipse.

If the 'All-Seeing Eye' symbolises the Solar Eclipse, which in turn symbolises the fusion of opposites which takes place within the 'Third Eye' during mystical enlightenment, then what we see encoded within the Master Mason's Apron makes a great deal of sense in terms of  these esoteric priciples.

The symbolism is simple and effective in that it encapsulates everything we have seen so far and more besides.

Centre: The truncated Pyramid measured by the arc of the Earth and the 'All-Seeing Eye' within the Floating Capstone, symbolising the Solar Eclipse - which is itself symbolic of the 'Internal Eclipse' in consciousness that can lead to Kundalini-related enlightenment as symbolised by the Halo (Right). Note also that Egypt and specifically the Nile Delta is located at the Heart Chakra of the physio-kundalini-chakra system in this correlating symbolism.

The Ancient Geometric Formula and the Angle of the Sun

“At the top of the tracing board is an image of the Sun and the Moon. They represent many things – in the cosmic Man, they represent the male and female elements which must be reconciled and distinguished if spritual development is to be successful. In the esoteric cosmology they represent the extremes of creative solar power and undirected lunar imagination, which must be reconciled in the healthy human”.

“This symbolism takes advantage of the remarkable fact (what the ancients recognised as a cosmic mystery) that the Sun and the Moon of our skies appear to be exactly the same size”.

Figure 9: The Masonic Apron encapsulated within the Ancient Geometric Formula.

As has been noted by the reader, the geometry of theMasonic Apron is encapsulated within the Ancient Geometric Formula.

One can see, that although for hundreds of years Egyptologists, historians and researchers have searched in vain for any textual record that may exist which could perhaps shed some light on the Great Pyramid of Giza – i.e., how it was built, including any secrets on the sacred geometry that went into its construction – all this time it’s geometry has been preserved within the Masonic Apron, which is itself a record of the same ancient sacred geometric formula which was known worldwide and which also contained the “Cosmic Angles” associated with ancient knowledge of the Earth’s geophysics and the obliquity of its tilted axis.

It was this knowledge that went into the construction of the Great Pyramid, as it did with many other temples worldwide, along with the numbers of Precession based on the number 9 – the esoteric principle of “three times three”.

The ancient mythical, Platonic or Canonical value given to the cycle of Precession is 25,920 years, and these numbers and those associated, always reduce down to the number 9.

As mentioned, according to Higgins, in Masonic lore, the angle of 36 degrees is associated with the Sun.

How and Why is the angle of 36 degrees related to the Sun?

2 x 36 is 72 – based on the number of years that the Sun moves one degree in this cycle . . . 71.6 years to be exact. However, again the number 72 based on the number nine (7 + 2 = 9) rounds the figure off, and so these numbers were easier to encode.

Other examples:

25,920 - being the duration of one precessional cycle in years:  2 + 5 + 9 + 2 = 18 . . . 1 + 8 = 9.

51,840 - two precessional cycles, (which also happens to be the side angle value of the Great Pyramid in degrees -  51.84°):

5 + 1 + 8 + 4 = 18 . . . 1 + 8 = 9.

It is truly remarkable that all the information we have viewed in these presentations has been formed using the natural angles one can extract from the natural proportions resulting from this simple geometric formula of a perfect circle and two equal-sided squares.

Again, according to Frank C. Higgins, this formula is very ancient and has been passed down through many centuries in the form of keystones and other ancient geometrical and mathematical devices.

It is now concealed and preserved within the Masonic Apron, which is itself based on the traditional sacred aprons and tunics worn by the priests of many ancient cultures worldwide – especially the priests of ancient Egypt and the Americas, which also preserved the knowledge concealed within the formula which also contains the sacred angles of the earth and its geophysics.

And, while looking at this formula, we are reminded of something else . . .

Leonardo Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man

It can now be revealed that Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous sketch, Vitruvian Man, completed in 1490, is based on the same proportions which exist within this ancient Geometric Formula now preserved in the Masonic Apron.

32

Quote:

‘Leonardo’s famous drawing based on the Golden Number, Vitruvian Man, illustrates a classical formula devised by Vitruvius. It is simply explained by the mathematician Luca Pacioli, who often worked with Leonardo:

“Having considered the right arrangement of the human body, the ancients proportioned all their work, particularly the temples, in accordance with it. In the human body they discovered the two main figures without which it is impossible to achieve anything, namely the perfect circle and the square.

“Spread-eagled, the man fits into a circle; with feet together and arms outstretched, he fits into a square”.’

Quote from ‘Masonic Artworks’.

Figure 11: Vitruvian Man by Leonardo Da Vinci (1490).

It has also been said that the circle represents the psychical worlds of the spiritual plane and the square the physical plane and that man stands between both.

It is an image associated with the Masonic Apron with the circle and square, as drawn by the compass and set-square, being an obvious reference to the origins of Freemasonry.

However, the proportions in Da Vinci’s ‘Vitruvian Man’ version are slightly different to that of the Geometric Formula.

The smaller square has been slightly enlarged (and by only 3%) to include the extended proportions of the human body – as determined by the horizontally outstretched arms (see also figure 18 below).

31

Figure 12: Leonardo Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man superimposed over Geometrical Formula

with the Masonic Apron highlighted

Again, the latter configuration appears to be in reference to the geophysical angles concealed within this ancient Geometric Formula which had been passed down throughout history and now preserved by the Freemasons.

It would suggest that Da Vinci was somehow associated with the same brethren of enlightened individuals who understood this ancient knowledge.

And there is more which supports this . . .

We note again that the legs are at the angle of 23.5° and not at the angle of 51.5° which is one of the principle angles in this geometric formula and upon which the side angles of the Great Pyramid were based – an angle which is ‘overtly’ presented in the Masonic Apron.

However, it appears that Da Vinci did indeed give reference to this angle and in his own way . . .

Angle of 23.5°

Another curious fact emerges when we measure the angle between the combined squared circumference of the Earth and the centre of the Moon.

The angle is close by a quarter of a degree to the Earth’s axis obliquity angle of 23.5°

Copyright © Gary Osborn 2012. All Rights Reserved.

Figure 17: The Angles of 23.5°.

The precise angle using trigonometry is actually 23.75° – just a quarter of a degree difference. However this value is very close to the precise angle of the ‘Celestial Polar Axis line’ in the Great Pyramid that begins from the South vertex of the Great Pyramid and goes through the centre of the King’s Chamber as-per the calculations checked and made for me by researcher Spiros Boutsikos . . . 23.789°

Now in seeing all this for the first time, one naturally asks, how can this be?

How is it that these particular angles exist and quite naturally within the combined proportions of the Earth and Moon?

How is it that the combined proportions of the Earth and Moon are in direct relation with the obliquity tilt angle of the Earth’s axis of 23.+, which many of us take for granted to be a random or chance occurrence in nature?

After all, the poles of the other planets in the solar system are titled away from the Ecliptic and at different obliquities, suggesting that the various obliquities concerning the axial rotation of the planets in our solar system is merely a random phenomenon dependent on numerous chance factors – i.e., impacts from large meteors, collisions with other celestial bodies, supernova shock-wave effects from exploding stars and other celestial phenomena.

But what we see here in this relationship between the combined proportions of the Earth and Moon and the 23.5 obliquity angle of the Earth’s axis appears to indicate some ‘divine plan’ in nature that is way beyond our comprehension.

As we know the degree value of these side angles are also relative to the ancient Precessional figure of 25,920 years . . . 2 x 25,920 = 51,840.

All the above could be related to the Golden Mean or phi ratio which is everywhere we look in nature.

This would explain the frequent relationship we find between the angle of 23.5 and the side angle of the Great Pyramid, both of which crop up in many paintings and sources; because it is a fact that if we multiply phi by 23.5° we end up with the value of 38 – the inverse of 52.

23.5 x phi (1.618) = 38.0237987 or without the fractions . . . 38.

However this still does not explain why or how the obliquity angle of the Earth can be naturally extracted from the combined proportions of the Earth and Moon.

The Masonic Angle of 33°

Another remarkable fact is that the Highest 'Masonic Degree' angle of 33° (32.9° to be trigonometrically precise), is intrinsically evident here, combining both the radius of the Earth and the diameter of the Moon, revealing that this angle is naturally and mathematically related to the combined proportions of both these celestial spheres.

Sun and Moon symbolism is endemic in Masonic symbolism and religious art.

For example, the Sun and Moon is often featured in Masonic Tracing Boards -depicted above the twin pillars or columns of Freemasonry known as Jachin and Boaz.

The Sun is placed above or to the left of Jachin, and the Moon is placed above or to the right of Boaz.

The twin pillars also represent the Sun's two rising positions on the Eastern horizon on the days of the Summer and Winter Solstices – these days being the extreme opposites reached in the yearly, annual cycle.

Also, in Christian imagery, Christ is sometimes depicted on the cross with the Sun above his head on his right side and the Moon above his head on his left (see painting by Raphael below right).

Vitruvian Man and the Angles of the Earth's Axis and the Great Pyramid

The angle of the Earth's axis of 23.5° and the side angles of the north/south cross-section of the Great Pyramid of 51.84° are also evident in Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man

It is not surprising to see these two angles together in one of the world's most famous works of art, because the angle of the Earth's axis of 23.5° is evident within the north/south cross-section of the Great Pyramid with angles of 51.84°.
