23.5 Degrees
Part 5: Symbolism and Other Sources
Don Barone supplied the following picture of a Masonic Compass on which he originally superimposed the image of a protractor to show that the legs of the compass are angled at 23.5 degrees.
I then examined it and realised that the symbol could be used to reference the points on the eastern horizon where the sun rises on the summer and winter solstices - a consequence of the tilt of the axis, but more importantly the Equinoctial point - i.e., the central point where and when the sun rises on the Spring and Autumn Equinoxes.
I then added the 23.5º lines and also the zero line.
The Masonic Set-square and Compass also symbolises 'balance' - as we get with the Spring and Autumn Equinoxes - the only two days of the year when day and night are equal in length, and when the same conditions are met as if the earth's axis was upright. - zero. Was the earth upright at one time? And if so, was this the Golden Age - also associated with the story of the 'Garden of Eden' before the "Fall"?
In any case, as we now know, the 'balance' being referenced here also applies to human consciousness - as the whole device references the Triad and reveals the 'mid-point' between opposites. The compass legs show the division of consciousness - i.e., energy/information which divides in two as it radiates outwards from the infinite - being the zero-point or source-centre of all creation . . . the 'inner sun'. Again Horus and Jesus represent this inner sun - the "son of the sun" - the 'third force' reborn into the world to help 'resurrect' the earth and the human race and bring back balance and order and restore what the ancient Egyptians called Maat.
The head of the compass also corresponds with the apex of the pyramid - the Benben which is also symbolic of the Sun, and really the Inner Sun.
The point of the set-square below shows that the same zero-point is at the centre of all matter - i.e., at the centre of all elementary "particles" - and that everything in reality - all physical forms and appearances (measured energy) are built-up from this point.
The 'G' is the Grand Architect but also man as 'God' the unconscious creator of these forms, whose place is at the centre between the same point which is at the centre of the microcosm and the macrocosm and is really within himself.
Below is the same 23.5º compass to show how it could also relate to Precession - the Rose or head of the compass now representing the earth. There is much more information that can be extracted from this traditional symbol belonging to the Freemasons which I will address elsewhere.
56. Masonic Set-Square and Compass open at 23.5 degrees - with the sun (rose-head of compass) at the equinoctial point and at Midday
57. The 23.5-degree Masonic compass which amongst other things, could be used as a symbolic reference to Precession and the 25,758-year cycle.
Below is another interesting Masonic illustration which includes a set-square and compass, a trowel, a rule a mallet and a book. The rose-head of the compass, symbolising the source-centre of creation, is now placed in-between the opposites symbolised by the sun (male) and the moon (female). This reveals that the source is also found in the union or fusion of both opposites - the 'third force'.
But look at the angles. If we go back to Edward Collier's painting of the 'letter and paper rack', (1699) we see that the same angles are being referenced yet again in this illustration. This is clearly not a coincidence and we are dealing with the same code.
57. Masonic illustration - referencing all the angles we know well
58. Masonic illustration - all items on the table, except the trowel - are angled at the degrees we are familiar with . . . not a coincidence.
